BD 1.1?

Hi,

I hear Bluray Profile 1.1 requires PiP capability - is there any title out there that has Picture-in-Picture?

And, would both the video streams be hi-def in that case? Or is it going to be 1 hi-def and 1 std-def?

Thanks!

Currently I think all of the picture in picture releases have standard definition secondary streams.

The current titles with 'Bonus View' (profile 1.1 picture in picture) includes:

War
Resident Evil: Extinction
Sunshine
3:10 to Yuma

There are others coming, including Rambo (Rambo 4) from Lionsgate.

I hope to display and filter by this information in the next version of the website.

Yeah from what I understand the picture-in-picture is standard def. Would makes sense as high def would need a lot more decoding and more expensive hardware, not to mention that if you are using picture-in-picture, it is never taking up more lines than standard. If you don't have a 1.1 player, most (if not all) picture-in-picture commentaries/comparisons can be viewed fullscreen separately (at least this was the case on HD-DVD, haven't tried any on Blu-ray). Though I could see them not allowing this for some if they require the movie to be there to make sense.

I've heard that since the HD-DVD of "300" had a picture-in-picture comparison, that they would likely do a reissue of it for Blu-ray. This was before 1.1 was out, but I would think if they do any re-issue at all, this content would be a no-brainer as it was only left off the Blu-ray because it couldn't do it at the time.

With Sunshine I believe you can watch the PiP content separately also.

And apparently 3:10 to Yuma is not Bonus View after all...
