But still, just today there is a post from a site that is very well know, that is posting such FUD. The site USED to have a response/blog type system like on formatwarcentral, but then the upgraded to a useless buggy system before throwing it out all together. This isn't the first time they'be done this and I've tried correcting them in this area before.
An example: back in January, they did a 3page blu vs red with some graphics... showing how both camps were fairly balanced by studio support in numbers, not in market share. Same manufacture of hardware in which some names and stats were incorrect. The end of the artcle had something to the effect "this format war will last a long time, so buying HD-DVD is safe" - their latest article is based off of rumors:

Now, if such a thing really did happen, Sony paying $400million for WB to go Blu - they would have said so. Just like HD-DVD/Toshiba paying off Paramount $150million to go red. It wasn't a secret. So how is SONY going to hide $400million? besides WB stated something to the fact, they looked at the data and they decided that while both formats are weak, blue was winning and to end the stalemate.
Anyone LOOKING at the data would see that BEFORE WB announced going Blu, that when it came to the players, Toshibas were selling 75% amount of units as Blu-Ray... even at $200 vs $400 blu-rays.
Looking at the graphs from Blu-Ray Statistics, when it came to movie sales, over 65% of the user base was blu... in the USA alone.
With such stats, WHY would SONY pay WB $400 million? When Toshiba paid off Paramount, HD-DVD wasn't so grim. Sony didn't need to pay anyone. The facts were there. The sales were there. And those sitting on the fence wanted it over. This is why such articles is FUD.

With the war over, the blue-ray titles seems to be coming out even faster now.
What is funny and sad is the kind of posts by HD-DVD owners still... oh well.

It seems to me that the mentality we saw from a number of HD DVD supporters was similar to the sports fan.
They support their team no matter what, and would never support the other evil team, even if their own team closed down the franchise.
They would rather support a different sport than support the team that defeated their team...

Just don't group all HD-DVD supporters together. I'm fine with a single format, I just hope quality stays fine. I've had both formats for a while, and saw a more constant standard of quality (and less willingness to use MPEG-2) from HD-DVD. When titles came out for both, they were typically identical in picture quality, sound would vary from title to title based on what formats were included. I was rooting for HD-DVD but glad the war is over and more titles will come to HD period, as well as more players being sold. I had actually kinda hoped the combo player would take over, leaving more competition. It does seem like Blu-rays aren't as discounted at the places I go since the war has ended. Maybe they just seem pricey cause I been stocking up on cheaper HD-DVD exclusives, $8-9 apeice at gamestop after buy 2 get 2 free for used ones. Of course same price for Blu-ray but less of them being traded in. Have picked up Harry potter 1-4, Pitch Black and Riddick, Elizabeth, and tons of other big titles at that price. ($17.99 + 2 for 2 + my 10% off card for used stuff). But yeah if I'd had my way, HD-DVD woulda come out on top, but as long as disc quality isn't hurt due to lack of competition, I'm completely accepting of Blu-ray. I'm just for HD in general, which is why I had both.

atm I have more HD-DVD discs than Blu-ray discs, simply because they were cheaper, and if the title was on both formats i tried to see what was the better encode.
blu-ray is just a tad bit more expensive so i have been buying them not quite as often. I just hope the prices don't get jacked up and the quality of the encodes suffers.
IMO if it were not for the format 'war' and competition from hd-dvd, then blu-ray would not be were it is at today, just my opinion though
Bottom line is i like good HD, no matter where it comes from
