Is it possible to add Year of Theatrical Release? Genre?

Postby Kosty » Mon Mar 08, 2010 10:28 am

It would be useful to be able to have the year of a movie's theatrical release added to the chart so we can kinda sort by year of release and get a sense of how well the studios are doing in releasing older studio library catalog releases.

Also adding the principal genre (s) of the movies?

Amazon.com and imdb and box office mojo all should have those fields already.

Can you do this?

I think this would be a good idea as well. It would be nice to further differentiate among the ever increasing number of releases, and having at least the theatrical release year listed with the release date in list form would show us at a glance how new the movies are that are being released.

Having a genre field would help further to differentiate the movies from the other types of titles, such as documentaries, music, and TV shows.

The year of release can be seen on the Movie Stats page:

http://www.blu-raystats.com/Stats/MovieStats.php

You can sort by the Year and you can filter by decade on this page.

The Genre information could be added to this table also I guess.

Yes, but not concurrently with the BLu-ray release date. If both release date and theatrical release year are shown together, then one can see at a glance which movies are day and date and which are catalog releases. It would be nice to track Blu-ray's relative release progress in these two key areas.

Perhaps a new table is in order with lots of dates :)

I have recently started tracking the authoring date of the release also.

Of course, I only have that data for a few discs but over time it will become wider...

As bruceames was saying what would be nice would be able to see both the Blu-ray release date and the movie theatrical release year on the same table.

Can you just add the Blu-ray release date info to that movie stats page?

Its also useful for seeing what the new titles are that are added to the list on the movie page if the Blu-ray release date was included. Otherwise its kinda hard to see whats new on the list.

That field has been added.

Please let me know if you see any weirdness.

Cheers!

It is becoming clear that I need to move to a better database design so any further refinements will need to wait for that.

Hopefully it won't take too long and will allow for the addition of new features as we move forward with more ease.
